School Groups – Pre- and Post-Teaching Guides for Ingram Planetarium

Following are some ideas that will help to maximize your students’ experience when visiting the Ingram Planetarium.

Once you arrive at the Planetarium, a staff person will meet you in the parking lot while the students line up. We will then divide into smaller groups and begin to tour the facility.

Pre-K through Second Grade

Kindergarten — Competency Goal 2: Learners at this age make observations about and build an understanding of weather concepts. Objectives 2.02, 2.03

Grade 2 — Competency Goal 2: Learners at this age conduct investigations and use appropriate tools to build an understanding of the changes in weather. Study topics include weather, planets, and atmospheres. Objectives 2.03, 2.05

Third Grade

Grade 3 – Competency Goal 1: Learners will build an understanding of the earth, moon, and sun. Objectives 3.02, 3.03, 3.04

Sixth Grade

Grade 6 – Competency Goal 5: Learners will build an understanding of the Solar System. Objectives 5.01, 5.02, 5.03, 5.04, 50.5

The space science curriculum for grades 6 to 8 includes:

  • How does the sun affect the earth?
  • Why are there seasons?
  • What is the solar system?
  • What is beyond the solar system?

Objective 5.04

Describe space explorations and the understanding from them, including:

  • NASA
  • Technologies used to explore space
  • Historic timeline
  • Space shuttle
  • Future missions

Objective 5.05

Describe the setting of the solar system in the universe, including:

  • Galaxy
  • Size
