Enjoy an entertaining and educational presentation at the Museum of Coastal Carolina. The Sandbar Lecture Series brings local experts to speak about topics ranging from our coastal environment to Outer Banks history. Sandbar lectures are free with Museum admission.
Jim McKee will shed additional insight to local Pirates and their expeditions along our coast. It has been over 300 years since the death of Edward Teach (aka Blackbeard), who met his fate on the North Carolina coast. His ship, the Queen Anne’s Revenge, which ran aground off the Carolina coast is now on the National Register of Historic Places. Towns like Beaufort, Ocracoke, Bath, and Greenville with spots all along the Outer Banks are steeped in tales about this vilest of pirates. There are many local opportunities to discover the crafts, commerce, and genuine historic artifacts of pirates.
Jim McKee is a life-long student of history and a graduate of Greensboro College. He is the site manager at Brunswick Town/Ft. Anderson State Historic Site. From childhood, his passion has been American History. He has worked for the National Park Service and the NC Maritime Museum at Southport.
