Sandbar Lecture: Tales of Beach Settlers and Visitors @ Museum of Coastal Carolina

Discover the origins of Sunset Beach and Ocean Isle Beach through captivating stories about people who visited and settled in these coastal communities. Tales of Native Americans, explorers, pirates, presidents, Civil War soldiers, and blockade runners will inspire curiosity about ordinary people who did extraordinary things to contribute to this area’s rich history.

Sandbar Lecture facilitator Ann Bokelman is a co-founder of Old Bridge Historical Society, a longtime Sunset Beach resident involved with several area volunteer groups and a retired nurse educator.

The Sandbar Lecture Series brings local experts to speak about topics ranging from our coastal environment to Outer Banks history. The Museum will open at 5:00 pm prior to the lecture.

Creepy Coastal Crawl @ Museum of Coastal Carolina

Oct 28 @ 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

Learn about creepy critters found along the coast during the Museum’s “Creepy Coastal Crawl.” Guests are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes, bring trick-or-treat bags and celebrate animals that most would deem “creepy” at the Museum’s second annual event.”

While exploring the museum and its creepy contents, families can complete hands-on activities featuring a creepy critter from a specific habitat in each gallery. Children can also collect treats donated by sponsors at stations throughout the Museum as they learn about sharks, snakes, bioluminescent jellyfish, horseshoe crabs, insects, and other creatures.

Sundays 12:00 to 4:00 pm during Festival of Trees.

All-day admission: $10 adults, $9 seniors (62+), $8 children (3-12), free for age 2 & under.

Membership: Most events are free for Museum members.

Combo Tickets: admission to museum and one planetarium show: $15 Adults, $14 seniors, $13 children.

Military: with ID receive $2 discount off general admission.

Museums for All: SNAP participants receive $2 Admission for up to 6 people.

Museums for All

The Museums for All program offers those participating in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) discounted admission to the Museum of Coastal Carolina and Ingram Planetarium. Each member of the family up to six people can receive admission to either the Museum or Planetarium for $2.00 with the presentation of a SNAP Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card. The Museums for All program is available for general admission during the museum’s regular open hours and at all planetarium dome shows. The program applies to general admission; special events such as laser shows are not eligible.

Similar reduced and even free admission is available to eligible members of the public at venues across the country. More than 800 institutions participate in the initiative, including art museums, children’s museums, science centers, botanical gardens, zoos, history museums, and more. Museums for All is part of the Ocean Isle Museum Foundation’s broad commitment to welcome all audiences.
