Summer Groups

Summer groups are welcome to visit the Museum of Coastal Carolina or Ingram Planetarium. Regular admission rates apply.

Here is some information to help you plan your summer group’s visit to Ingram Planetarium or the Museum of Coastal Carolina:

  • Group tours, programs, and Planetarium dome shows are available Tuesday through Friday by appointment only. We recommend contacting us to schedule your trip early in the school year so that we may reserve the dates you want.
  • With advance planning, we can schedule visits to both the Museum and Planetarium on the same day. The two facilities are about four miles apart.
  • Nature’s Treasures Gift Shop, Galaxy Gift Shop, and restrooms are included as a tour stop.
  • Please arrive on time. We cannot risk having late arrivals delay another group’s appointment.
  • Chaperones and their assigned group of 10 students are required to stay in the same gallery at all times. Chaperones are responsible for the behavior of their students.
  • Full payment for each facility is due upon arrival; please prepare separate payments for each facility.

Lunch Sites

  • The Ocean Isle Beach Community Center, located three blocks from the Museum, has sheltered picnic tables and restrooms. To reserve the Community Center for your group’s lunch, call Ocean Isle Beach Town Hall at  910-579-2166.
  • The Ocean Isle Beach Park, located on Old Georgetown Road, may meet your group’s needs. For more information, call 910-253-2670.
  • There are many restaurants in the Ocean Isle Beach and Sunset Beach areas that can accommodate your group.

Planetarium Options

During the summer months, Ingram Planetarium is open six days a week to the public. We welcome summer camp groups to integrate a visit to Ingram Planetarium into their camp activities, however, we do recommend you contact a planetarium representative prior to your visit to determine what time would fit your groups needs the best. Our hours do change seasonally, groups coming outside our summer schedule should consult our most current schedule for the most up to date hours.
Our dome theater has limited seating and can hold up to 84 people a show. If you would like to visit during our public hours, we encourage you to call ahead and alert us of your visit and arrive at least 30 minutes ahead to secure tickets. We also offer the Paul Dennis Science Hall as a fun, activity-filled area where your group can explore and learn while they wait for the show to begin.
Another option for summer camp groups would be a private showing, these must be scheduled in advance during our non-public hours and require a deposit of 80.00 with a check or credit card. This deposit is applied to your total admission cost the day of the event. If your group is interested in a private showing, please visit our community group subpage to learn what films and laser shows we offer and complete our community group request form.

The Galaxy Gift Shop open during your group’s field trip to Ingram Planetarium.
