Program is included with regular Planetarium admission.

Ingram Planetarium is proud to present Asteroid and Planetary Defense presented by Ian Hewitt on September 14 at 7:00 p.m.

We see beautiful meteor showers in the sky, but the larger asteroids (like the one that wiped out the dinosaurs) can present a danger to our planet.  Learn what we know about these space rocks and some of the smaller impacts in recent history.  Hewitt will also discuss what scientists, NASA, and the international community have been doing to detect and deflect these threats.

Ian Hewitt has been interested in astronomy and space since he was very young.  After working in embedded systems (like the ones used on spacecraft), he decided to become a professional astronomer and teacher.  He has been part of the NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassadors education program since 2003 and has given multiple classes and talks to a wide variety of audiences.

Ingram Planetarium is located 625 High Market St, Sunset Beach, NC. Admission to the Planetarium is free for members. Non-member all-day admission is $9.50 for adults, $8.50 for seniors, $7.50 for children (3-12), and free for age 2 and under. Admission is free for active duty military and disabled veterans plus one guest; must include military ID cardholder.
